Wednesday Medal – 30 June

Conditions were ideal for scoring and the competitors did not let the opportunity pass them by with one-third of the field breaking par. Hugh Colquhoun led the way with a fantastic round of 74 for a net score of 63. Hugh was two under par after three holes and recovered admirably after a flurry of bogeys by finishing with birdies at 16 and 18.   After nine holes, Archie Young was on course to beat Hugh having reached the turn in level par but he was unable to sustain this form and finished three shots adrift.  Twos at the 10th and 14th gave William McVicars a chance but bogeys at 15 and 17 ended his challenge.

Newly-crowned club champion, Kevan McArthur, shot a magnificent scratch 66 and must have been scratching his head when told he had not finished first in class one. That honour went to a resurgent Shug Clark who birdied the 2nd, 4th and 16th on his way to a superb 65. Mike Hall and Stewart Gillespie also played their best golf of the season to post net 66s. Stewart shot a two-under par 34 on the back nine while Mike recovered from a triple-bogey at the 11th with a birdie at 16 and an eagle at 18.

In class 3, David McInnes must have feared the worst after taking 17 shots to play the first three holes but he recovered superbly to record a net 66, the highlight being a birdie at the 13th. His closest challenger, Michael Willis, also had a chance of a 66 but double-bogeyed the 17th.
