Mixed Greensome winners 2017

The Inaugural Mixed Greensomes at Stirling Golf Club proved popular with members and visitors alike.    Weather conditions were perfect for scoring and first out Di Davidson and husband Archie posted an early clubhouse lead with a score of 68.6   This was to hold out all day until Former Scottish and British Champion Alison Davidson and husband Martin recorded a score of 68.4.

In the very last group of the day juniors Orla Fitzpatrick and Lewis Cowie came in with an excellent 67.6 to win  first handicap prize and the Salver.  Thanks to everyone who helped on the day and made it a successful event.

Finally, to the Captain and hard working committee – take a bow.   Many of the visitors commented most favourably on the course but also on the Junior Lounge and the Ladies Toilet and Shower facilities – with some of them taking pictures to take back to their clubs.   Well Done Campbell and Co!

It was a busy week-end at the club with the Ladies Hosting the Festival Trophy in Tri-am format on Saturday and the Open Gents Wilson Salver on Sunday in a revised Greensomes format.

The weather was mixed on both days with some prolonged heavy showers with spells of fine weather and little wind. Visiting players on both days were very complimentary on the condition of the course and greens and the presentation of the course.

Visitors from over 40 clubs around Scotland participated in a full field on Sunday. Stirling members took four out of the five leading prizes. Less than 2 shots splits the leading five scores with Kenny Stewart and Stuart Todd narrowly missing out on the prizes by 0.2 shot, with an excellent one over par 73.

  • The winners, both Stirling members were Chris Goode and David Sharp on 64.8 with half's of 37-39 with birdies at the 9th and 11th and 11 pars.
  • Runners up were Stewart Gillespie and James McKean on 65.8 with James holing a 30foot  par putt on the last green in half's of 39-36.
  • 3rd was Stevie Duncan and Jim Anderson with a level par round of 72 with a 2 at the 8th and a closing birdie in half's of 37-35.
  • Fourth place was Edward Dallas from Torrance House and partner William Wright from The Carrick with a level par round of 72 in half's of 35-37 with birdies at the 5th,9th and 10th holes.

Leading Scratch Score was Club Champion Alan Watson and David Oates both Stirling with a 3 under par 69.

Results, all Stirling unless stated.
